The problem with Reverse Osmosis filter systems is that it filters too much out of the water.
This depletes the water of much needed minerals. When this water that is now empty like a vacuum, enters your body, it leaches critical minerals from your system, leaving your body depleted of minerals. Over time this can result in serious health issues that may include, high or low blood pressure, aching muscles and joints, dry skin, irregular heart beat, fibromyalgia and many more.
To not get rid of your expensive investment in a RO filter, the following can be done to change the existing RO filter into a filter that still cleans the water of unwanted impurities but also leaves the good minerals like Calcium, Magnesium Zink, Potasium etc.
Start by familiarizing yourself with the representative schematic below
The Schematic shows what MOST filters look like, yours may be slightly different but the principle remains.
Next start by loosening some plumbling as shown below
We have now disconnected the RO membrane filter and the Storage tank, next make the connections as shown below:
We have connected the 3 stage filter DIRECTLY to the water outlet on the counter top, Thus eliminating the RO membrane and the Storage tank (which could contain unhealthy teflon)
Next, open the 3rd "carbon block" filter housing, and remove the carbon filter element. Replace this with a KDF filter module as shown. Refit the filter housing.
When finished, your filter should look like the sketch below.
Now open the tap and let the water run for about 10 minutes. Black (carbon) water may come out the tap from the new KDF module. This water is very good for your plants. When the water runs clear, start enjoying your healthy water.
Not only will the water now taste different, as you now have more minerals in your water, but you will also save a lot of water as your RO filter wasted around 7L for ever liter of filtered water produced.
